I found another picture of the two piece KW. This picture is from a different angle and may give you some more clues as to what failed and caused the truck to break in two.

With the air hose stretched out in the picture, Could it be maybe a wrecker pulled it apart?

John, in the other pictures there is a "jerk" strap hooked to the front of the truck and the grille has damaged like it rear-ended another truck. I find it so hard to believe that a wrecker operator would actual use a strap to pull a truck up a grade, but then there are less than qualified wrecker operators out there too....

http://forums.aths.org/InstantForum2010/Uploads/Images/8c873fec-1a78-4a82-8202-9ae1.jpgI saw a wider angle picture of  the incident, the  pull truck  was  a  tanker!!  Probably from the same frac company. It looks like a classic case of someone taking a regular single frame highway truck to an early grave by sending it in the bush  !!. The sling being used to pull looked like a very wide an stiff nylon sling with   not much flex to it. If they were going down the road with a dead engine in the second unit( the limited amount of cooling fluid on the ground points to that), the pull truck was then supplying air for both braking systems and might not have had enough capacity to do the job.The air pressure then dropped  on the second unit causing the maxis to engage. Add the weight and countershock of a full tank as the pull truck jerked to a stop when all wheels locked up on the second unit(except for the front axle, no parking brakes on the front axle!!) and VOILA!!. I could not tell if the sling was tied to a truck or a trailer.if it was a tank trailer, that would add even more inertia as the mud in the tank would have given quite a jerk to the sling!!   A very good example of a bad example!! Lucky no one was hurt.  Oh and i must add.Quite the achievement for the sling!!!

:cool:Found out the truck belongs to Tri-Can well services from Alberta . The truck was being towed with a rookie driver behind the wheel. they began driving down a slight incline with both drivers  braking to pace themselves. Air pressure dropped quickly, second driver did not notice the air gages until the maxibrakes engaged and brought the truck to a sudden halt.He was pulling a frac pump sitting on a tridem chassis that  gives him a gross of 45  metric tons, 100 000 pounds. I would not be surprised if the pull truck was also a  semi pulling a tridem mud tank, by the damaged caused!!My theory was right!!
