Perhaps they couldn't figure out how to get the original engine out ?? Name the front engine too if you can. Photo from Dan Souday.

'38-'39 Ford with Cadillac motor, that's a bastard creation if ever there was one.   :w00t:

I''m an expert now, I didn''t have anything left over this time.

I wouldn't disagree with Ford/Caddy.  However, I bet that won't move much under poor traction conditions unless some weight is added to the rear.  That big Caddy engine hanging out front will surely make that rear axle llght, no?

Life  is like a roll of toilet paper the closer  you get to the end, the faster it goes!  Enjoy each day.

Looks like the Caddy over revved the flattie... at least one head is missing. How about the winch cable hook-up? This whole thing is an accident waiting to happen! Pure junkyard boom truck technology at its finest.

It looks like everyone knew what this is, but no one can be sure of what was going on in the mind of whoever built this rather unique boom truck. No doubt this is a '38-'39 Ford, with the remains of it's flathead V8 still in place, with a big Cadillac V8 and Hydramatic providing the motive power up front. Park Olson had this beast 1st; thanks to Dan Souday for the photo. The '38 wrecker in the last shot below is in lots better shape.

This looks like maybe a case of "because I can".
