Chalk one up for Ricky.  This is a 1928 KENWORTH.

It's nearly unanimous: too bad for David there wasn't a President Kenworth ! This truck is a 1928 Kenworth SP-55 custom built for the City of Seattle Street Department. It was used by their shop division and had a wrecker set up mounted on it. Although this truck resembles one of today's dually pickups this KW was rated at 2 tons. This same photo appears in the 1973 book "Keen Kenworth Trucks" by Gini Rice (with illustrations by our own Ken Goudy). The caption notes the truck was being restored by a KW employee. Apparently he didn't get too far, as the KW is now owned by Old Village Vintage Vehicles and they are in the process of restoring it. The last photo below is the truck as they received it. It was in pretty rough shape. Below are some specs sent by Bill White, along with the 2nd photo. Ricky had this 1st; thanks to Pat MacPhail for the WAI photo.

1928 Kenworth Pickup

Specifications:

Chassis: Kenworth

Body: Heiser Body of Seattle

Model: 55-SP

Type:

Serial Number: 55001

Engine: Buda

Model: HS-6

Ignition: Remy Distributor

Transmission: 35-4 - direct

Sold New: City of Seattle

Acquired by OVV: 2003

Condition: Rough - most of the wood has been reproduced. Engine disassembled and crack fixed. Frame blasted and parts cleaned.

History

This small truck was custom built for Seattle Street Shop Division in February 1928. This is the only pick-up that was built in the factory for a customer.

The truck included special cab / bed, full length running boards, canvas top and a blue and cream paint job.

that's one of the most desirable trucks imaginable.  I hope to see more of it someday.
