Robert
Keep on asksing questions!! We all have some fun answering them. As for the search, it doesnt like to work for me either. Maybe Eddy will jump in with the answer later??

The IH nickname "cornbinder" comes from the farm machinery side of the old McCormack Deering binder invention. It is also known as a "13 letter S$$T Spreader".

Brockway's are also know as "Cortland Viberators" from their seriously strong suspension.

If you can make sense of the search , let the rest of us know too..

Ask as many questions as you want.  We are here to pass on trucking history.

Please make the questions to the point. Not to broad . To many of us writing is a second language,  we run our mouth all the time.  Writing on the computer takes a long time with 2.3 fingers... lol

Binder comes from IH as joe said. International Harvester Corp... Corn binder
Corn picker, Farmall, Corn field caddy, ^%$# spreader, manuare spreader,  and many more...

It would be handy to have a glossary...  dictionary...

I've tried the search a couple dozen times. Never found anything yet.
I like the nicknames that came out for the aerodynamic trucks when they first hit the market.
Kenworth...Anteater
International...Corn sniffer
Peterbuilt...Peter eater

Eddy can explain the nuts and bolts a little better, but basically this search engine came with the software package, it aint google. Some search engines work better than others, and (unlike diesels) they cant be turned up to run better than they do.Some are great at looking at every line of text in everything written, others just skim the titles.Ours is kinda in between.

That being said, next time ANY of you are typing a post, look down at the bottom of box youre typing in and notice the blank box with the word "Tags" to the left of it.The ability to add tags got added very recently, during the last upgrade.A tag is like a flashing yellow sign on the informaton highway shoulder, a search engine can spot it 2 miles away and knows that it marks the info it needs. If you are posting about Anything that you think might be interesting enough that Anyone might Search for it somewhere down the road, either here or just out on the internet ( google and yahoo know we're here ), then take an extra 2.5 seconds and FILL OUT THE DAMN TAGLINE.Okay?...thanks.

Heres another thing that screws up searches.Youve got a thread titled "how does search work here ?" but youve got two topics going. Its one thing if someone else hijacks a thread and drifts off topic ( been there, done that ), but dont hijack youreself.Start another thread titled "truck make and model nicknames".Ought to be a good one, I'll jump in myself, know a bunch of them.Just start a new thread about it, it will make it easier if someone searches for "nicknames" 2 years from now.Dont worry about asking questions, the only stupid question is the one you Dont ask.And fill out the tagline, okay?,lol.John

All of the help files are located in the "Help" section, this message will be moved there too. http://forums.aths.org/InstantForum2010/ATHS-Discussion-Forums/Help-Web-Site-Instructions

Tags should be limited to one word per tag. If you require more than one word to describe the post create, multiple tags. The system will remove phrases automatically.

The search engine is very effective and requires several steps to use. Take note of the window below;

http://forums.aths.org/InstantForum2010/Uploads/Images/2f0163b9-f112-4aab-be9c-7598.jpg

Depending on which part on the site you are viewing when you click on the search engine depends on whether or not the down arrow circled above appears.

If it DOES NOT appear, you are searching only the section displayed in your browser. i.e. if you are in the RoadKill Cafe, you are searching content posted in the RoadKill Cafe. If you are searching from the home page, the page that list all of the forum sections, you are searching the entire site. See photo below.

http://forums.aths.org/InstantForum2010/Uploads/Images/e81fd08e-7bf9-4864-8847-16b9.jpg

If it DOES appear, see photo below, you need to click on the down arrow and tell the search engine which parts of the site to search by checking the desired sections. See the large photo above to see the menu that appears when you click on the down arrow.

http://forums.aths.org/InstantForum2010/Uploads/Images/70bf6507-47e1-4b47-9edb-4596.jpg

The rest of the settings are the same as any other search engine. Do you want to search the titles of messages only, the body of the messages only, or both. Are you looking for an exact match on a phrase or are you looking for keywords.

I'm Sorry, I just don't understand how the search works. I've tried it a couple dozen more times after reading John and Eddy's explanations and still never found nothing.

I don't get the tag thing a ma jig at all. If someone tags a subject "nicknames" and I do a search for "other truck names" because that is what the thread is called, how is that going to help?

I just did a search for "our other brother Daryl" I put in, search forums, last 30 days, titles only, any key words, and it couldn't find it. The title was the second one on the first page.

I give up on it. I'm not computer literate enough to handle such a feat. When I want something I'll scroll down through the pages just like always. The good thing is I usually find some good reading on the way.
