LaFrance ? Why, that could be Ward LaFrance, LaFrance-Republic, or American LaFrance ! Did I miss any ? I think everyone knows this truck is an American LaFrance, a rather unique 1931 model that had front drive and a tillerman in the rear, for manuevering on narrow city streets. I have to agree this is one fine looking fire truck. Thanks to Dan Souday for the photo; the 2nd one below is from Bill White.

Technically Bill is correct.  To take advantage of the Canadian Market for ALF products the company established the "AMERICAN LAFRANCE FIRE ENGINE COMPANY OF CANADA LTD" in 1914 with a factory in Toronto.  When the US parent company merged with the "FOMITE CHILDS CO."  in 1927, the Canadian subsidiary changed it's name to "LAFRANCE FIRE ENGINE AND FOMITE LTD." dropping the "AMERICAN"  The WAI apparatus was built in the Toronto plant and it was the only one built there.  It was delivered to the Toronto Fire Department .   One other Model 233 was built and delivered to Manila, Philippine Islands in 1932.  Ii was likely built in the Elmira NY plant.    This information can be found in Walter P. McCall's book "100 YEARS of AMERICAN LAFRANCE".
